Masterpieces on display: the Lunette of the Niche of the Palli

Sunday 25 June, 11 am

The visit leads to the temporary exhibition devoted to one of the masterpieces of the VIVE’s collections, the gilded bronze lunette that in the Middle Ages adorned the niche of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, where the cloaks of bishops were kept. Participants meet up close the work's patron, Innocent III, one of the greatest popes of Christendom, his politics and artistic undertakings, while understanding who made the niche, where and what technique and what it represents on both sides. Thanks to the immersive mode, finally, they will take a real journey through time entering the 13th-century Basilica of St. Peter's, the one, to be clear, that no longer exists, after the transformations by Bramante and Raphael.
