The many roles of the lion: from the heraldic emblem of Pope Paul II Barbo to the symbol of the Venetian Republic, from a key figure in one of Hercules’ twelve labors to the attribute of Saint Jerome in the reliefs by Mino da Fiesole. Through an iconographic exploration of this powerful symbol and a dive into its behavioral traits in stories from Medieval Bestiaries, children will have the chance to discover the lion’s significance and role in the reliefs, sculptures, frescoes, paintings, and decorations throughout Palazzo Venezia.
The tour will take them through the facade on Via del Plebiscito, the Giardino Grande, the loggia, the Appartamento Barbo, the monumental rooms, and select works from the museum’s collection, tracing the history of the palace—from papal residence to exhibition space.
Meeting point: Palazzo Venezia, via del Plebiscito, 118
