“Drawing, the father of all our arts.”
With these words, Giorgio Vasari celebrated drawing as the foundation of artistic creation — from architecture and sculpture to painting.
This engaging workshop begins with a brief journey through the history of drawing, guided by key works from the museum’s collection. Then, participants will dive into a two-part hands-on experience designed to bring Renaissance techniques to life.
In the first phase, you'll step into the Altoviti Room to sketch details of Vasari’s painted grotesques using sanguine or charcoal, practicing the same observational techniques used by Renaissance masters. It's an opportunity to explore not only the materials but the mindset behind the art — where studying reality meets personal expression.
Next, you'll refine your sketch by learning traditional methods of shading and highlighting, adding depth, light, and nuance to your work.
This activity will be conducted in Italian.
