Executive Techniques

The work was made of bronze using the lost-wax casting technique, embellished with gilded bronze decorations and a decorative apparatus of silver reliefs. It can be observed that the head of Garibaldi in the center—in very high relief—was also created with a lost-wax bronze casting technique, subsequently gilded and soldered to the center of the boss (umbo).

The background bronze has a dark patination against which the figures, coats of arms, and gilded leaf crowns stand out, achieved with the amalgam technique.

The significant silver relief decoration is not made of embossed sheets but was obtained by casting and subsequently applied and soldered to the bronze support. The silver surfaces are finished with fine chasing that defines the details down to the smallest particulars.

The executive technique is excellent. There is no evidence of repair patches, nor of bronze soldering or recastings, the absence of which denotes a high-quality casting. Various gold alloys were used to create the work, giving the aesthetic result a vibrant quality due to the different color nuances.
