The Architecture of the Urban Landscape

CYCLE: Ideas and Figures. Stories of innovative strategies for architecture
SPEAKER: Stefano Catucci
DATE: Thursday 23 October, 6 pm

“Urban landscape” is a vague expression, often used superficially, as if it were merely about observing the city’s panorama and turning its architecture into a spectacle. Hence the interest in skylines, picturesque views, and greenery as a point of contact between nature and the built environment. But if that were the case, speaking of the urban landscape would add nothing new to what we think or know about the city. It would merely introduce an aesthetic component without truly altering our perspective. It is therefore useful to delve into at least a few aspects of the experience of landscape to understand whether, when applied to the city, it can genuinely open up a new way of seeing.
