Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni with Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano visited the exhibition “The Last Portrait: Mazzini and Lega, Parallel Lives in the Risorgimento” at the Vittoriano. VIVE Director Edith Gabrielli was also present.
The exhibition, sponsored by the Prime Minister's Office, is promoted and organized by the Ministry of Culture and VIVE, in agreement with the Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento.
The exhibition features more than sixty objects, divided among sculptures, paintings, engravings, photographs, manuscripts, unpublished documents and Mazzini memorabilia.
Among the main works on exhibit are a bust by Giovanni Spertini, depicting Giuseppe Mazzini with the sash bearing one of his most famous mottos, “God and the People”, recently acquired by the Vittoriano, and Silvestro Lega's painting entitled “The Dying Mazzini” from the United States, from the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.
The work, one of the most iconic of the Risorgimento, is on temporary loan thanks to the work of Minister Sangiuliano, who has pledged to bring it back to Italy permanently.
