Reintegrazioni: dai depositi al percorso di visita
This exhibition series delves into a carefully curated selection of works from the VIVE – Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia collections, spanning diverse periods and artistic techniques. Once consigned to storage, these pieces have been brought back into focus through a systematic cataloging campaign initiated by VIVE’s Director, Edith Gabrielli, and led by three eminent scholars: Alessandro Tomei for the medieval period, Barbara Agosti for the early modern era, and Valerio Terraroli for the 19th and 20th centuries.
The title underscores the reintegration of several of these works into the museum’s display, highlighting their historical and artistic significance. Among them are a fragment of a Byzantine door from the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome; a medal by Filarete depicting Faustina the Elder and Antoninus Pius in a gesture of unity; Madonna della Noce by Saturnino Gatti; the model for the Fountain of the Four Rivers by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the celebrated masterpiece in Piazza Navona; and the so-called Shield of Giuseppe Garibaldi, crafted by Antonio Ximenes.
