Lampedusa: Gateway to Europe

CYCLE: Between Two Shores
SPEAKER: Dionigi Albera (Université d’Aix-Marseille)
DATE: November 17, 2025 - 6:00 p.m.
WHERE: Museo Nazionale Romano, Palazzo Massimo

Over the past decades, the small island of the Pelagie has found itself at the center of migratory flows crossing the sea from the African coast. Lampedusa has become a gateway to Europe, both a landing place and a mirage for those moving in search of a better future, often at the risk of their lives. The current situation ties back to a long historical experience that for centuries made this rocky outcrop, situated between two continents and two civilizations, an important place of transition and contact.
