Gods and demigods: the myth of Hercules at Palazzo Venezia

The thousand Stories of VIVE
- Friday 12 May, 5.30 p.m.

The myth of Hercules has always fascinated patrons and artists. Over the centuries, great lovers of the arts have commissioned works inspired by the demigod for their palaces and collections, sometimes even interpreted in a Christological key. The visit takes us through gardens, loggias and halls of the building, following as a fil rouge a series of artworks recounting his feats. They range from the 15th-century frescoes devoted to his famous labours in the Barbo Apartment to the pair of porcelain vases in the Passage of the Cardinals, the bronzes of Hercules and the Hydra and  Hercules and the Nemean lion in the Palazzetto to the Farnese Hercules reproduced by Bartolomeo Cavaceppi now in storage.
