The many roles of the lion from the heraldic emblem of Pope Paolo II Barbo to the symbol of the Venetian Republic, from the protagonist of one of the Twelve Labours of Hercules to the attribute of Saint Jerome in Mino da Fiesole's reliefs. The iconographic reading of this subject, so familiar to children, and the discovery of its behavioural qualities through several tales taken from Medieval Bestiaries, will enable them to deduce its function and significance in the reliefs, sculptures, frescoes, paintings and decorations of Palazzo Venezia. This exploration will involve the façade on Via del Plebiscito, the Giardino Grande, the loggia, the Appartamento Barbo, the Saloni Monumentali and some of the works in the museum collection, favouring a reconstruction of the palace's history from papal residence to exhibition venue.
