A visit to the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, or Vittoriano, offers an opportunity to explore Italian history and art in greater depth. Conceived in January 1878 in honour of Victor Emmanuel II, the first King of Italy, and the entire process of the Risorgimento, the complex has housed the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier since 1921, together with other memorials connected to Italian history.
Participants enter through the monumental gate on Piazza Venezia, ascend to the Altar of the Fatherland and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and admire the equestrian statue of Victor Emmanuel II. Finally, they can take in the impressive scale of the Piazzale del Bollettino and the Sommoportico.
