Vittoriano
A visit to the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, also known as the Vittoriano, offers an opportunity to explore Italian history and art. Conceived in January 1878 in honour of Victor Emmanuel II, the first King of Italy, and the entire process of Italian unification known as the Risorgimento, since 1921 the monument has housed the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, together with other memorials connected to the country’s history.
Participants enter through the monumental gate on Piazza Venezia, then make their way up to the Altar of the Fatherland and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The tour continues with the equestrian statue of Victor Emmanuel II, before reaching the impressive spaces of the Piazzale del Bollettino and the Sommoportico.
