The Atlantis of meter and rhyme: from classical to modern

CYCLE: Ancient modern: a journey through European literatures
SPEAKER: Valerio Magrelli
DATE: Tuesday, September 23, 6:00 PM

For centuries, the entirety of European culture associated the practice of poetry with the use of meter (at least starting from the Greco-Roman world), later pairing it with rhyme (beginning in the Middle Ages). Only around the late 19th century did free verse emerge, straddling the United States and France.
