VIVE is located in the exact center of Rome and brings together the two most iconic buildings in Piazza Venezia: Palazzo Venezia andVittoriano. The tour begins at Palazzo Venezia, a majestic Renaissance residence that has hosted cardinals, popes, and ambassadors over the centuries. You will explore its gardens, loggias, monumental halls, and art collections. The journey continues to Vittoriano, a monument to the first king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II, and home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Here, visitors can appreciate the architectural quality of Giuseppe Sacconi’s design and the work of great Italian sculptors of the 19th and 20th centuries, reflect on national history, and ascend to the Panoramic Terrace for the most spectacular 360° view of Rome and its millennia-old urban fabric.
For many centuries the residence of popes, cardinals, ambassadors, and artists, Palazzo Venezia is an ancient and majestic Renaissance palace in the heart of Rome. Few buildings in the city—perhaps none—encapsulate such a rich heritage of history, art, and culture. This guided tour leads you through a complex of loggias, walkways, and gardens filled with precious plants, into halls so vast they take your breath away, showcasing masterpieces from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century.
A visit to Vittoriano is an unmissable experience for anyone wishing to delve into Italian history and art. The complex, conceived in 1878 to honor the first king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II, and the entire Risorgimento process, has housed the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and other national memorials since 1921. Participants enter through the monumental gates on Piazza Venezia, ascend to the Altar of the Fatherland, view the equestrian statue of Victor Emmanuel II, and experience the grand scale of Piazzale del Bollettino and the Sommoportico, finally reaching the spectacular Panoramic Terrace for a unique view over Rome.
Eyeglasses, newspapers, red shirts, swords, paintings, rebuses, and photographs: the extraordinary collection of the Central Museum of the Risorgimento becomes a map illustrating the ideals and figures behind the struggle for a united and independent Italy. This tour reconstructs history from Mazzini’s republican dream to Garibaldi’s campaigns, from the strategic alliances of the Kingdom of Sardinia - orchestrated by Cavour and Victor Emmanuel II - to the conclusion of the First World War.
