Palazzo Venezia: the collections

Founded after the First World War, the Palazzo Venezia Museum now has an extraordinary collection of about 15,000 objects, which includes one of the most important collections of medieval wooden sculpture in Europe, but also Renaissance bronzes and terracotta sketches from the Baroque period, which illustrate the creative process of great masters such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Alessandro Algardi. Equally fascinating is the picture gallery, where you can admire, among others, works by Beato Angelico, Carlo Maratti and the Double Portrait of Giorgione, as well as the remarkable porcelain collection. The tour ends in the internal loggia of the Palazzetto Venezia, once the garden of the papal palace and a place of delights (the so-called Viridarium), where the collection of marble reliefs is now set up in a suggestive setting that evokes the idleness of past centuries.
