End of the restoration

The project to restore the sculptures on the main façade of the Vittoriano, symbol of the Italian Republic and our national identity, has been completed.

The initiative represents an extraordinary example of the enhancement of our historical, artistic and architectural heritage, but also a virtuous synergy between public and private, designed to generate shared value for future generations.

Under the direction of Edith Gabrielli and with the execution led by Susanna Sarmati, the restoration involved works of great importance: the marble sculptures by Emilio Quadrelli and Pietro Canonica, the gilded bronze sculptures by Giulio Monteverde and Francesco Jerace, and the flagpoles with the Victories by Edoardo Rubino and Edoardo De Albertis.

The restoration halted forms of decay and restored splendour to the modelling of the fountains' stone surfaces, as well as to the gilded finishes of the bronze elements.  In addition, it offered the opportunity to deepen our knowledge of the processes involved in the creation of the monument's artistic artefacts, all of which were executed in the same period but are the work of different authors .

The interventions - carried out thanks to Bulgari's support through the Art Bonus - have restored full legibility to the sculptures, restoring the harmony between the white Botticino marble and the original gilding of the details of the bronze elements, as envisaged in the project by Giuseppe Sacconi, the monument's architect.
