The restoration work on the Altar of the Fatherland, which began last March, is coming to an end. These days, workers are dismantling scaffolding and restorers are completing finishing operations on the Botticino marble frieze.
The work, directed by VIVE director Edith Gabrielli and carried out in the field by restorer Susanna Sarmati, has allowed the frieze and Angelo Zanelli's sculptures to regain full legibility and enjoyability, and has also been an important opportunity for study and documentation, the results of which will be recounted in VIVE's upcoming focus exhibition dedicated precisely to the Brescian sculptor. In these last hours, the braziers and decorations of the Unknown Soldier are also being cleaned.
