Week 16. Fine decorative details of the frieze resurface thanks to cleaning

Thanks to the cleaning, carried out in the various stages that we have told you about in recent weeks, the surfaces of the frieze carved by Angelo Zanelli show, in addition to the signs of workmanship, precious decorative details that re-emerge and become fully visible again.

In the video, which shows the decoration of the frieze on the western side, we can admire some of the figures in the procession: the large hands and feet; the making of the soft draperies of their robes: the rendering of chiaroscuro through the use of stepwork to define depth; and some striking decorative elements, in their entirety and detail, such as the sphinxes decorating the large votive altar, a clear iconographic reference to the Viennese secession and Klimt.
