Week 12. Cleaning work continues on the surfaces of the frieze

Restorers are completing the cleaning work on the frieze's surface; they have removed the wrappings and scalpel-removed the stronger, darker deposits that have softened after treatment.

Where necessary the botticino marble was consolidated with the use of a nanolime that makes the surface less porous but still permeable and prevents lichens from adhering again.

Dark-colored ion exchange resins were then applied, which, due to the lotus on the surface, remove the patina of yellowed limestone.
