Vittoriano
The statue of Victor Emanuel II on horseback and its base
The statue of the first king of Italy, created by Enrico Chiaradia and Emilio Gallori, with the base by Eugenio Maccagnani, is the visual and spatial fulcrum of the entire complex
The gilded bronze group with Victor Emanuel II on horseback was conceived and largely made by Enrico Chiaradia from Friuli, starting from 1889. Upon Chiaradia’s untimely death (1851-1901), in 1901, it was completed by the Florentine Emilio Gallori (1846-1904).
The marble base below the statue belongs to the sculptor from Lecce Eugenio Maccagnani (1852-1930).
