Vittoriano welcomes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: live interview with Bruno Vespa from the Sommoportico

The last stop on his official trip to Italy, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski was welcomed at the Vittoriano by Bruno Vespa and Edith Gabrielli, director of the the VIVE Institute.

From the monument's Main Colonnade on Saturday, May 13, a special episode of Porta a Porta was aired on Rai 1.

Along with Bruno Vespa, in attendance were directors of Tg1 Monica Maggioni, Tg La7 Enrico Mentana, SkyTg24 Giuseppe De Bellis, Mediaset anchorman Nicola Porro, and, for the newspapers, directors of Repubblica Maurizio Molinari, Sole 24 Ore Fabio Tamburini, and Corriere della Sera columnist Ferruccio de Bortoli.

"The choice of the Vittoriano must be considered highly symbolic. Conceived after the death of Vittorio Emanuele II,  the first king of Italy, in 1878, the Vittoriano is the most important monument of our Risorgimento. Its two underlying values, the freedom of citizens and the unity of the country, were and remain valid in the new republican and European Italy", declares the director of VIVE Edith Gabrielli.
