Vittoriano: tours of the restoration site for the sculptures on the main elevation continue

Three new free appointments-July 12, Aug. 8, and Sept. 12, 2024-to see the works up close, admire their magnificence, and touch on Italian excellence in restoration as part of the major project implemented thanks to the contribution of Bvlgari

The special visits to the sculpture restoration site on the main elevation of the Vittoriano, promoted by VIVE-Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia, directed by Edith Gabrielli, continue with three new appointments scheduled for July 12, August 8 and September 12, 2024, at 10 a.m., aimed at visitors and tourists. This is a unique opportunity to climb the scaffolding, see the works up close, and at the same time verify Italian excellence in the field of restoration in line with the model of the "open" building site - visible to the public at all stages of work thanks to a system of transparent scaffolding - already adopted on the occasion of the intervention on the Altar of the Fatherland.

Directed by Edith Gabrielli and carried out by Susanna Sarmati, the restoration of the Vittoriano's sculptures is carried out thanks to the contribution of Bvlgari, confirming the Maison's strong bond with the city of Rome and its priceless heritage. An initiative of high cultural importance, aimed at the protection and enhancement of the monument's sculptural decoration, created at the beginning of the 20th century, by some of the most important artists on the national scene.

Having completed the restoration of the fountain with The Tyrrhenian Sea by Pietro Canonica, the workers are now putting their hands on the other sculptures on the main elevation: the marble fountain with The Adriatic Sea by Emilio Quadrelli of Milan, the two groups in gilded bronze with Guilio Monteverde's Il Pensiero and Francesco Jerace's L'Azione, 10 meters high, and finally Gaetano Vannicola's flagpoles with Edoardo Rubino and Edoardo De Albertis' Victories, both resting on the prow of an ancient Roman ship.

Visits to the restoration site are scheduled for Friday, July 12, Thursday, August 8, and Thursday, September 12. Three appointments of great interest in which to observe these sculptures more closely, discovering their executive quality but also the problems of conservation and the solutions adopted to restore them to full legibility.

The visits-which are among the educational initiatives of VIVE-Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia entrusted by the Institute to Opera Laboratori Fiorentini-represent one of the

flagship proposals of the wide range of cultural offerings promoted by the VIVE and aimed at a broad and diverse audience to promote knowledge of a unique heritage in the world.

Visits are free of charge and reserved for a maximum of 15 people per shift by making a reservation by sending a request to: vi-ve.edu@cultura.gov.it.
