Medieval Rome: an archaeological perspective

SERIES: Landscapes of the Centre of Rome
SPEAKER: Andrea Augenti, Professor of Medieval Archaeology, University of Bologna
DATE: Thursday 11 July, 6 pm

Over the last few decades, archaeological investigations in Rome have multiplied, focusing on numerous aspects of urban evolution. Churches, private dwellings, public areas, artisanal facilities and more have been excavated. In this way, our knowledge of the city since the 5th century has greatly changed, and Rome has become one of the centres of reference with respect to the development of cities in Italy and Europe. On this occasion, some particularly interesting and significant topics of the development of the urban area will be addressed, in the light of archaeological discoveries and more recent reflections by archaeologists and historians.
