Tactile experience at Palazzo Venezia: the Lapidarium

The tour leads into the upper loggia of Pope Paul II's secret garden to discover the Lapidarium: 120 marble works, from the classical age to the Renaissance, many of them found in the early 20th century in the area of Piazza Venezia. Through the tactile experience, visitors learn about the history of these marbles – from their discovery to their arrival at Palazzo Venezia – their volumes and decorations in a fascinating immersive narrative. The layout was developed in collaboration with UICI – the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired – to make VIVE increasingly accessible and inclusive.

Palazzo Venezia through the senses

How do you explore a museum through the senses? What aromas and scents come from the gardens of the past?  Walking through the majestic halls of Palazzo Venezia, the tour leads us to discover its history through a novel sensory journey, involving the body, movement and imagination of the participants. The path winds its way through the halls of the museum, in constant interaction with the works of art and materials in the collection: marble masterpieces are revealed through touch, ceramics from an ancient apothecary's shop are told through the smells of the mixtures they have contained over the centuries. A synaesthetic experience, which includes several activities to be carried out during the visit, is offered as an inclusive journey for all participants.

Tactile experience at Vittoriano

An expert guide in museum accessibility will engage visitors in sensory explorations of the Vittoriano's spaces and works. The tour starts at the Liberty-style gate on Piazza Venezia, continues with the base of the equestrian statue of Vittorio Emanuele II, to discover the physical characteristics of botticino marble and the stories depicted. From there, it leads to the spatial knowledge of the Piazzale del Bollettino, bordered by the curvilinear form of the Sommoportico, to the exploration of the Monte Grappa rock block. The trail was also developed in collaboration with UICI - Unione Italiana Ciechi e Ipovedenti (Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired) to make VIVE increasingly accessible and inclusive.

How do you explore a museum via the senses? What aromas and fragrances emanate from the gardens of the past? Passing through the majestic salons of Palazzo Venezia, this tour explores its history along a unique sensorial route that engages the students’ bodies, movements and imaginations. The itinerary unfolds through the rooms of the museum, constantly interacting with the artworks  and materials in the collection. Marble masterpieces are discovered through touch and old apothecary ceramic jars are narrated via the smells of mixes contained over the centuries. A synaesthetic experience comprising several activities during the visit offers an inclusive route to all participants.

Tactile Experience at the Central Museum of the Risorgimento

Are you keen to know how Italy became a united and independent nation? Do you want to know more about its heroes, from Giuseppe Mazzini to Giuseppe Garibaldi, Conte Cavour and Victor Emmanuel II? If so, this experience is for you. The route passes through the rooms of the Museo Centrale del Risorgimento, allowing you to learn more about this period in Italy’s history. The tactile experience of marble busts and bronze models plus listening to sources, tales, anecdotes and music means you can reconstruct the protagonists’ appearance and dress as well as the whole context of the times.
