The artworks embody a refined universe of knowledge, materials and techniques, often lost today. Palazzo Venezia preserves one of the largest collections of applied arts in Italy. In addition to paintings and sculptures, its rooms and deposits house over 14,000 items in glass, weapons, porcelain, tapestries, fabrics, ceramics, silver, medals and jewels. The visit conveys an understanding of the materials and techniques of some of these works, describing what they were made of and how. At the end, in a specially organised workshop, young and adults have the opportunity to invent a coat of arms or decorate a piece of porcelain, to experiment with the art technique of “pouncing”, and to model plaster.
