Discovering the Vittoriano with a focus on the sculptural decoration of the Altar of the Fatherland

The thousand stories of the VIVE
Guided tour for adults in Italian
Sunday 9 February 2025, 11 a.m.

A visit to the Victor Emmanuel II Monument, or Vittoriano, is an unmissable experience for anyone wishing to delve into Italian history and art. The complex, conceived in January 1878 in honour of the first king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II, and of the entire Risorgimento process, since 1921 has housed the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and other memories of our history. Participants enter through the monumental gate on Piazza Venezia and ascend towards the Altare della Patria and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. From here they observe the statue of Victor Emmanuel II on horseback and remain breathless at the size of the Piazzale del Bollettino and the Sommoportico. The visit will continue by taking participants to the spectacular Panoramic Terrace at the top, where they will enjoy a unique view of the city of Rome.
