Discovering the Vittoriano

The thousand stories of the VIVE
Guided tour for adults in Italian
Saturday 28 September, 8.15 p.m.

A visit to the Victor Emmanuel II Monument, or Vittoriano, is an unmissable experience for anyone wishing to delve into Italian history and art. The complex, conceived in January 1878 in honour of the first king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II, and of the entire Risorgimento process, since 1921 has housed the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and other memories of our history. Participants cross the entrance through the monumental gate on Piazza Venezia, climb up to the Altar of the Fatherland and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, gaze at the statue of Victor Emmanuel II on horseback, and remain breathless in front of the dimensions of the Piazzale del Bollettino and the Sommoportico.
