On the occasion of the European Heritage Days | EHD (Giornate Europee del Patrimonio), promoted by the Ministry of Culture (MiC) to reaffirm the centrality of the cultural heritage and its historical, artistic, identity value, the VIVE Institute - Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia proposes a rich programme of activities, at the symbolic cost of 1 euro, dedicated to the theme “Sustainable Cultural Heritage: a legacy for the future”. There will be guided tours for adults, animated visits for families with children and special evening openings that will open up new perspectives on the VIVE's places and collections, under the banner of a shared reflection on environmental, social and economic sustainability.
On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25, visitors will be able to access a new guided tour in the garden of Palazzo Venezia: “The luxury of water. The water supply of Palazzo Venezia in past centuries” is the visit that, starting from the fountain built by Carlo Monaldi between 1729 and 1730 and taking advantage of the wonderful scenery of the garden reopened to the public in 2016, will be an opportunity to discover how the water supply of an ancient palace in the heart of Rome worked, and how that issues such as reducing waste, recycling waste and free access to sources of drinking water were also topical in past centuries.
Families with children are invited to the special animated visit “Stories of rediscovered gardens, medicinal plants and ancient spice houses” that, starting from the exploration of the garden and its secret botany, will lead visitors to discover ornamental plants from the four corners of the world, in the shade of palm trees and magnolias. The tour will continue into the collections of the Palazzo Venezia Museum, where you will find an ancient apothecary's shop: dozens of splendid blue majolica vases that allow you to rediscover ancient herbalist and apothecary practices. The visit will combine storytelling with creative activities to be carried out along the route.
On Saturday 24 September, Palazzo Venezia and the Vittoriano, including the Panoramic Terrace, will extend its opening hours from 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm, with last admission at 9.45 pm. On this special occasion, the public will be able to enjoy several activities at the symbolic cost of 1 euro. For families with children from 5 to 12 years old, the appointment with “VIVE under the stars” will return: the special program of theatrical tours and exploratory walks, among the wonders and secrets of the monuments of the VIVE Institute. From 7.30 p.m, the different routes will wind their way among the palm trees, statues, ancient works and the elegant halls of Palazzo Venezia and its garden, up to the Panoramic Terrace of the Vittoriano, where, among the winged Victories, the starry sky and the lights, visitors will be able to admire Rome from above and capture a unique image of the eternal city, to be treasured as a memory of the experience. On the same evening it will also be possible to take part in the guided tour “An evening at the Palace. Seven tours for seven themes”, short visits to offer a glimpse of the many faces of Palazzo Venezia.
