The centre of the engraving portrays the personification of Liberty, who carries the Phrygian cap that was dear to the French Revolution, who opposes the reproaches of the various rulers of Europe, identifiable by their crowned heads. This work, created in the first few years of the nineteenth century successfully summarises the spread of the ideals of liberty that circulated in Napoleonic Italy and which were the prelude to some of the guiding principles of the Risorgimento.
